Who runs Music Weekly
Music Weekly is a weekly live-music guide hosted by Studio 12. It covers live music in Saskatoon and the Fraser Valley. This page describes what the Music Weekly websites collect and how it is used. These pages are the hub at musicweekly.ca, the Saskatoon page at musicweekly.ca/saskatoon, the Fraser Valley page at musicweekly.ca/fraser-valley, and the event submission page at musicweekly.ca/submit.
What is collected
Page analytics. The pages use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see how pages are used. Google Analytics receives standard page-visit information from your browser. Analytics is on by default. You can turn it off below, and it is off automatically if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.
Paid subscription. The Saskatoon and Fraser Valley pages offer a subscription at $10 per month. If you subscribe, you enter your name, email address and card details. Your name and email are sent to Stripe, which creates a customer and subscription record. Your card details go directly into Stripe's payment form and are handled by Stripe. We record the following in a Google Sheet: your name, email, subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription IDs, the date you subscribed, the date and result of payments, any cancellation date, a private unsubscribe code, and which city site you used. We send you a confirmation email with an unsubscribe link. If you ask for a sign-in link, we email you a link that is valid for 15 minutes. Following it sets a sign-in cookie (s12_access) in your browser for 30 days. Unsubscribing cancels the subscription in Stripe and marks your record as cancelled.
Mailing list. The Saskatoon and Fraser Valley pages have a mailing-list sign-up that does not involve payment. If you join, your email address is stored in a separate tab of the same Google Sheet, with an ID, an opt-in flag and the date. We also receive an email notification at eguide@s12.ca for each sign-up. Your address is stored so that we can contact you about Music Weekly.
Event submissions. The submission page at musicweekly.ca/submit collects the details you enter: your name, email, role and organization contact details, the event, artist or venue information, and any files or links you attach. Submissions are received through Netlify Forms and reviewed by Studio 12. The page has a checkbox you can tick to allow Music Weekly to use a submission in social posts and the weekly issue.
Browser storage and cookies. If you turn analytics off, a setting called lander_analytics is saved in your browser's local storage so your choice is remembered. The sign-in cookie described above is set only if you request a sign-in link. Google Analytics and Stripe may set their own cookies or storage when their scripts run. The pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers.
Who handles the information
- Netlify hosts the websites, runs the sign-up and subscription functions, and receives event submissions.
- Google provides Google Analytics, Google Sheets (subscriber and mailing-list records) and Google Fonts.
- Stripe processes subscription payments.
- Microsoft provides the Office 365 mail service used to send confirmation and sign-in emails from eguide@s12.ca.
How long information is kept
Subscriber and mailing-list records stay in the Google Sheet until they are removed. Unsubscribing marks a record as cancelled and does not by itself delete it. Netlify keeps form submissions until they are deleted. Google Analytics keeps data according to the retention setting in Studio 12's Google Analytics account. To ask about your information, email eguide@s12.ca.
Your choices
Analytics (Google Analytics) is on by default. You can turn it off for this browser here. Nothing is sent to Google Analytics once it is off. This also respects your browser's Global Privacy Control setting.
The choice is saved in this browser for musicweekly.ca, including the Saskatoon, Fraser Valley and Submit pages when you reach them through musicweekly.ca. It is not shared with other browsers or devices. If you open the city sites at their own netlify.app addresses, that is a separate site to your browser and the choice does not carry over. You can also block analytics in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
